In the far north of Western Australia in the remote Kimberley region is a vast freshwater lake nestled amongst a rugged billion year old landscape. Lake Argyle is Australia’s largest expanse of freshwater covering an area of more than 900 square kilometres at full supply level and up to 2000 square kilometres when in flood. Once a habitat that was subject to the cycles of the wet and dry seasons, now this massive expanse of permanent fresh water has allowed a thriving ecosystem to develop.The magnificent scenery and peaceful isolation make Lake Argyle a must see destination when visiting the Kimberley!
The immense freshwater lake formed by the damning of the mighty Ord River has created an amazing marine environment which now offers a wide range of adventures and activities beginning at the Lake Argyle village. There is plenty to see and do in and around the lake with its countless islands, bays and beaches. Here are a few of the attractions waiting be explored on any trip to Lake Argyle. Birdwatching, bushwalking, historic Durack Homestead Museum, the new pool, swimming, The Bungle Bungles and watersports.
The Lake Argyle Resort have a number of different accommodation options ranging from architecturally designed villas with magnificent views over Lake Argyle through to economical single rooms all complimented by their magnificent Infinity Pool, restaurant, bar, General Store and tour desk. Lake Argyle Resort is pet friendly except if you are staying in the Lake View Grand Villas. If staying in one of their other accommodation options, they do require that pets must be kept outside and are not permitted on any decking areas. An additional cleaning fee may apply if evidence suggests that pets have been inside the rooms. Registration of your pet and a $50 bond is payable at check-in and if management deems that your pet is creating a disturbance or is a discomfort to other guests then you may be asked to leave the premises. Bar and Restaurant are closed between 1 Nov - 31 Mar (Wet Season) will need to self-cater (and of course no restaurants or shops closer than 70kms away in Kununurra!).
