Whether you’re seeking a family holiday, a group getaway, a castaway-style adventure or a romantic retreat, you’ll find your ideal escape at the Mackerel Islands. Scattered 22km off the coast of Onslow in Western Australia, two of these ten pristine islands and atolls welcome guests – Thevenard Island with a choice of beachfront cabins.
A range of activities and tours have been designed to captivate and entertain you during your stay, from marine-based snorkelling, fishing, turtle and whale watching, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding, to land-based 4WD sunset trips, bird watching, beachcombing, beach sports and stargazing.
Chevron Thevenard Island Decommissioning: During 2020 Chevron has made great progress in removing their old camp, offices, pipelines and other infrastructure. In 2021 the iconic oil storage tanks and remaining infrastructure will also be decommissioned, allowing site rehabilitation to commence. If work is occurring during your stay, there may be a noticeable increase in marine activity (barge loading and unloading) nearby the beachfront cabins. Barge operations will generate engine noises and restrict access to the island jetty area while loading is occurring. There may also be heavy machinery operating in the neighbouring lease area, and travelling to and from the jetty during the day. The Club Thevenard area including the bar, restaurant and swimming pool will be unavailable. An alternative beach location has been set up for our Dinner Under the Stars evenings.
