Affectionately known "Rotto" by locals, Rottnest Island is located just off the coast of Perth and can be accessed by ferry in 30 minutes from Fremantle, 45 minutes from Hillaries Boat Harbour or just over 60 minutes from the Barrack St Jetty in Perth, which includes a leisurely cruise down the Swan River.
Rotto is popular spot with locals and tourists alike, with its crystal clear and sparkling blue bays and beaches and reefs, great for fishing, swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, boating and surfing, and it's laidback lifestyle. There are very few vehicles on the island, with bicyles the main form of transport, along with the island bus service, both of which allow you to explore the island at your leisure.
The island has 2 general stores and a range of smaller retail outlets, including the famous Bakery! There are plenty of restaurants and bars, and a drink in the beer garden at the Rottnest Hotel which has stunning views of Thompson Bay is a lovely way to wind down after a day of fun in the sun.
